MNTB welcomes the opening of the new Maritime Skills Academy at Dover.

The Dover-based Maritime Skills Academy was formally opened on 8 September by Sir Allan Massey, CEO of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Guy Platten, CEO of the U.K. Chamber of Shipping. Opening speeches congratulated the Jaenicke family, and Dieter Jaenicke, the founding chairman of Viking Recruitment, for their vision, tenacity, commitment and hard work in making the academy a reality.

Seafarer training will be well served by this new facility, which offers all the basic safety training courses and more. The MNTB team were in attendance at the opening and greatly enjoyed the tour of the facilities, including the survival pool and the fire ground. Glenys Jackson, Head of MNTB, commented that the Academy would provide valuable and much-needed training to support companies and seafarers in ensuring they meet their certification needs.

The vision and dedication of Viking Recruitment doesn’t stop here though, as the next phase of building is already under way, to complement and enhance the new facilities.
